Did You Know?
The Ideal pH of Your Pool
If the pH is above 7, the water is basic; if it is below 7 the water is acid. The optimum pH for pool water is7.4, since this is the same as the pH in human eyes and mucous membranes. A pH of 7.4 also gives good chlorine disinfection.
The Ideal Chlorine Level
Regardless of how frequently or what system you use to add chlorine to the water, the chlorine level should stay between 1.0 and 3.0 parts per million (ppm) to maintain a healthy pool. Any higher and you start to run the risk of red eyes and swimmers itch.
For Salt Chlorinator Pools…
The salt level required to maintain a safe, chlorinated pool is about 2500 to 3500 PPM (parts per million). The human tongue cannot taste salt until the PPM is around 5000. As a reference point, the ocean is around 40000 ppm.
What is Total Dissolved Solids?
Total dissolved solids is a measurement of everything that has ever dissolved in your swimming pool water. This includes minerals that separate from your pool chemicals, such as calcium and sodium, and every bit of dissolved dust, pollen, swimmer waste, algae remains – everything!
